THE IMPORTANCE OF GREEN TRIPE IN THE BARF DIET
Green Tripe is a fundamental part of the BARF diet for dogs. Let's find out more about what it is and why it's important to include it in their bowl.
Green Tripe consists of the four stomachs of ruminants (Reticulum, Rumen, Omasum, and Abomasum).
Green Tripe is simply tripe washed with cold water to preserve its qualities. It has a distinctive strong odor that is not very pleasant for us humans, as it contains residues of the animal's food that was in the process of digestion.
Green tripe is rich in amino acids, gastric juices, and natural enzymes. Thanks to its probiotic action, it aids digestion, contributes to maintaining intestinal flora, and thus constantly strengthens our dogs' immune systems.
Green tripe specifically helps dogs digest, thereby maximizing the nutritional benefit from their daily food ration.
The digestive enzymes in green tripe thus contribute to the removal of toxins & parasites from our dogs' bodies.
Its recommended dosage is 10/20% of the total ration. It can only be found in specialized BARF stores because, by law, it is not legal to sell it fresh in butcher shops, as it would contaminate meat for human consumption.
Lamb and beef tripe can be used. Both can be found either whole (and then provided in pieces or as is) or minced.
Caution: RAW alternatives should only and exclusively be given to dogs following the BARF diet.
An increasingly popular alternative is also dried green tripe, which can be added directly to the bowl or given as an out-of-meal snack.
The smell of dried tripe is still characteristic but not as pungent as when it's fresh, especially when kept in the fridge, which can be a bit bothersome.
The dried alternative can be given to all dogs, even those on industrial diets (kibble).
